You Can Have Multiple Flavors in One Cup of Gelato at Paciugo! (Chicago, IL)

WHO LOVES GELATO!!? My friend, Ms. B from the Kitchen and the Egg introduced me to Paciugo on one of our food excursions. I am so glad we went because it was really fun and delicious!

Exterior

This particular location is located in Boystown on the intersection of Broadway and Melrose street. If you wanted to cool off, this place would be a great place to chill out at, especially with the insane 90 degree weather Chicago has been having.

More Flavors

The staff shared that they make all their gelato daily and rotate dozens of flavors so customers can choose from a wide variety.

Flavors abounds

With many gelato flavors to choose from, one has a hard time deciding what to get. They were very kind in allowing us to sample many flavors! They even had flavors for those who wanted a sugar free or sugar substitute option.

Lavender, pistachio, and others

Ms. B got a mixture of vanilla lavender, pistachio, and two other flavors. I think the other 2 flavors she had were hazelnut and pannacotta (wedding cake). Feel free to correct me if this is wrong, Ms. B!

Pistachio, and some others

As for myself, I had pistachio, hazelnut and two other flavors that I can’t quite recall. I think the other two were dulce de leche and pannacotta. But I must say, the gelato was delicious and you’re able to pack in quite a lot of flavors in one cup! I love having lots of flavors so for me, this was a win win situation.

Have another

And if you’re feeling guilty eating this delicious dessert, at least it’s less fat then ice cream! 🙂 I’m so glad Ms. B brought me here. Thanks Ms. B! The gelato was lovely!

Meet My Feline Friday: These Shoes are Made for Walking… I Mean Sniffing

Meet My Feline Friday is a weekly post on cats, mostly mine. If you would like a cat to be featured or perhaps found something cat-related you want to share, let me know!

An interesting thing occurred when I placed my shoes in the hallway.

Pepper was rolling around on them as if my shoes stepped into a forest of catnip. I’d never seen her do this to my shoes as I hadn’t let her near them before.

Must investigate what was in these shoes. My feet, obviously? Such a silly cat.

Is something in there? Is there another cat? What what what!!

It’s funny how one can always learn something new about their cat, even though we’ve been together for so long.

And in addition to smelling and rolling around shoes, Pepper is incredibly tolerant of loud music being blasted in the same area as her sleeping quarters such as the recently discovered (on my end) Halestorm!

Remember, if you have a cat or want to share something cat related, e-mail me!

New Artisan Doughnut Shop from Francescas Restaurants – Glazed and Infused (Chicago, IL)

I love doughnuts and am always on the look out for a new treat to snack on. Scott Harris has decided to open not 1, not 2, but THREE donut shops in Chicago. Two locations should already be open by now with the 3rd location opening in July 2012.

Openings will be handled in stages, with the first Glazed and Infused opening on Monday, May 21 inside Francesca’s Forno at 1553 North Damen Ave., Chicago 773-770-0184. The entrance to this Glazed and Infused, a walkup window, is on North Damen, steps from the Wicker Park Damen Blue Line stop. Planned hours are: 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Monday through Friday; 10:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The second Glazed and Infused also will open Monday, May 21 at 813 W. Fulton Market in the heart of the Fulton River District just step off he Morgan Green Line stop, 312-226-5556. Planned hours are: 6:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. This location offers 36 seats inside and 8-10 seats outside.

The third location, in the Lincoln Park/DePaul area, is planned for July at 929 West Armitage St. in a historic building within steps of the Armitage Brown Line stop.

Apparently, all the locations will offer “handcrafted doughnuts in 12 flavors plus a weekly feature and many more rotating flavors.” All the doughnuts will be made the old fashioned way, hand crafted and made fresh each hour from locally grown ingredients. They will have both cake and yeast doughnuts and serve coffee by Intelligentsia.

Any early adopters of the doughnuts? I’m really liking the idea of fresh doughnuts every hour and using locally grown ingredients. Do they give the Doughnut Vault a run for its money? Is it priced reasonably and how do the flavors stack up? Please share if you’ve had them! I’m super excited about this! 🙂

This year marks the 19th Annual Dining out for Life for Chicago! It’s an annual dining fundraising event raising money for AIDS service organizations. As stated on their website:

“Last year, Chicago raised over $125,000 to continue its mission of providing housing with life services to men, women & children living with HIV/AIDS. This year we hope to raise $150,000. You can help make a difference by joining us along with 60 other cities throughout North America and Nigeria and dine out on Thursday, April 26th!

Don’t miss Food & Friends’ 16th annual Dining Out for Life DC! On Thursday, April 26th, more than 150 participating restaurants in DC, MD and VA will donate 25-100% of sales to Food & Friends’ life-saving services.

Food & Friends is the only nonprofit organization in the Washington, DC area providing daily, home-delivered, specialized meals, groceries and nutrition counseling to individuals who are battling HIV/AIDS, cancer and other life-challenging illnesses. Might I add there’s a very strong showing from the Andersonville neighborhood. 😉 Participating restaurants in Washington D.C. include many Whole Foods locations, Le Chat Noir, Bangkok Garden, Cafe Bonaparte, Dupont Italian Kitchen, Red Rocks Pizza and many more! Go forth and eat in support!

“Reservations are strongly encouraged at most Dine Out locations. Let your restaurant know that you will be dining with them because of their support for HIV/AIDS services in your community.”
